Nov 11, 2017 I have got a new macbook pro 2017 (13’’, High Sierra). This is my first mac. Recently I'm struggling with the wifi connection between the mac and my router. My router works on both 2.4 and 5GHz. I have 7 devices connected to the router and they work without any problems. Some of them are connected to the 2.4 network and some to the 5GHz. Wifiphisher is a WiFi hacking tool that can execute speedy automated phishing attacks against Wireless/WiFi networks with the intention of discovering user and password credentials The difference with this wireless tool (compared with the others) is that it launches a Social Engineering attack which is a completely different attack vector to take when attempting to breach WiFi. If you’re curious how far can a hacker be from your home router and still have a strong-enough signal to hack your WiFi, you can download NetSpot, an easy-to-use WiFi analysis tool. With NetSpot, you can instantly see whether your WiFi network is sufficiently encrypted to withstand a targeted attack.
5GHz is potentially faster but also more susceptible to distance drop-off and interference. The MBA's metal case is an advantage in many ways but a hinderance in others and I've found that my plastic PC notebook can be further away from my router on 5GHz than our MBA or MBP. If you have a router with moveable antennas you may find it useful to try changing their orientation or moving the router. You might also look for sources of interference. Note: if you hold option while clicking on the WiFi icon you'll be able to see signal strength etc which is helpful as you try to work thru this.
